What is Safety Compliance?
This is an image of a father and mother hugging their daughters.
Safety compliance means safer roads for everyone. FMCSA
uses the Safety Measurement System (SMS) to assess
compliance by analyzing safety data from roadside inspections
and crash reports to identify and intervene with motor carriers
that pose the greatest risk to safety. Get Road Smart about
safety compliance and the SMS here.
You Drive Safety Home
Five million truck and bus drivers share
the road with 250 million motorists.

Learn the BASICs
The SMS organizes roadside inspection, crash, and investigation
information into seven Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement
Categories (BASICs). Remember: All Safety-based roadside
inspection violations count, not just out-of-service violations.
