10.9 What information must a household goods motor carrier provide to a prospective individual shipper?
When a household goods motor carrier provides the written estimate to a shipper, it must also provide the following documents (either as a copy or by including a hyperlink on their website to the web page on the FMCSA website containing the publication):
The Department of Transportation (DOT)publication titled “Ready to Move? —Tips for a Successful Interstate Move” (DOT publication FMCSA–ESA–03–005, or its successor publication).
The contents of appendix A of this part, titled “Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move” (DOT publication FMCSA–ESA–03–006, or its successor publication).
Before a household goods motor carrier issues a bill of lading it must provide the shipper all four of the following documents:
A concise, easy-to-read, accurate estimate of charges.
A notice of the availability of the applicable sections of its tariff for the estimate of charges, including an explanation that individual shippers may examine these tariff sections or have copies sent to them upon request.
A concise, easy-to-read, accurate summary of its arbitration program.
A concise, easy-to-read, accurate summary of its customer complaint and inquiry handling procedures.
