SMS Updated; FMCSA Correlation Study Corrective Action Plan Released

July 16, 2018

SMS Updated

FMCSA has updated the CSA SMS Website with the June 29, 2018 results.

Motor carriers participating in FMCSA’s Crash Preventability Demonstration Program will continue to see the Agency’s final determinations on SMS for crashes reviewed as part of the program. Logged-in carriers and enforcement users with crashes determined to be Not Preventable as part of the program can view measures and percentiles calculated with and without those crashes.

FMCSA Correlation Study Corrective Action Plan Released

FMCSA has delivered its Correlation Study Corrective Action Plan to Congress and the Office of the Inspector General (OIG). Building on FMCSA’s commitment to continual improvement, the corrective action plan outlines how the Agency will address the recommendations made in the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) report, titled “Improving Motor Carrier Safety Measurement.” Additional information on the corrective action plan is available here.

In support of this effort, FMCSA has removed the public SMS Preview site, which displayed proposed enhancements to the SMS, released prior to the NAS report. FMCSA announced this change in a Federal Register Notice published this week.
